The Manuscript
CSN&Y
'People believe in CSN&Y. When they see CSN&Y, even if it is a nostalgia trip, I want them to believe that life is worth living, and that the rest of their life is going to be better than the first part. I want people to feel an energy from the band that makes you feel great.' - Neil Young
With Forewords by Graham Nash and Stephen Stills, the 58,000-word manuscript has been garnered by CSN&Y biographer Dave Zimmer from both new and archive interviews with Henry Diltz and members of CSN&Y, alongside recollections of fellow musicians, friends, music industry figures, journalists and peers.
The list of contributors includes John Sebastian, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Judy Collins, Russ Kunkel, Glenn Frey, Gene Clark, Grace Slick, Arlo Guthrie, Bill Halverson, Ellen Sander, Elliot Roberts, Paul Rothchild, Ahmet Ertegun, Chip Monck, Cyrus Faryar, Bill Graham and Ron Stone.
Alongside Henry Diltz's own treasured reflections are his many journal entries, which place the photographs squarely in the context of the times.
'CSN&Y knew how to talk to an audience. Their music and the camaraderie on stage was genuine. It always seemed like the real McCoy to me. A very good feeling band, they'd always get you high.' - Joni Mitchell
