Songs by George Harrison – Prints Portfolio

George Harrison, Keith West

Published in 1987 in conjunction with the Genesis limited edition Songs by George Harrison, these lithographs were created in collaboration with botanical artist Keith West, translating Harrison’s selected lyrics into visual form.

Produced in editions of 850 impressions, the prints were conceived as symbolic reflections on recurring themes in Harrison’s work – nature, society and human behaviour. At the time, the imagery stood apart from conventional music illustration. Seen today, the works feel notably ahead of their time in their allegorical and conceptual approach.

Preserved in the Genesis archive since publication, these original lithographs are from the small number of publisher-held copies that remain, now made available for the first time in decades.

Piggies Portfolio — Harrison & West

Songs by George Harrison – Prints Portfolio

Complete three-print portfolio including the co-signed Piggies lithograph.

This very limited portfolio brings together a matching-number set of three lithographs printed in 1987:

  • Piggies — signed by George Harrison and Keith West
  • Taxman — signed by Keith West
  • Here Comes The Sun — signed by Keith West

Written in 1968 for the Beatles' self-titled double album (widely known as the White Album), 'Piggies' presents one of Harrison’s most incisive pieces of social commentary, employing allegory to critique materialism and social hierarchy.

“‘Piggies’ is a social comment.” – George Harrison

In Piggies, Harrison’s characteristically wry perspective is translated into richly detailed allegory. The imagery draws on a long tradition of satirical animal symbolism, carrying unmistakable echoes of Orwellian themes while remaining closely aligned with the spirit of Harrison’s Beatles-era writing.

Viewed together, the three works reveal the breadth of Harrison’s lyrical observations and the ambition of West’s visual approach – the resulting collection retaining a quiet relevance four decades after publication.

Each 17" x 25" print has remained in the Genesis archive since publication and is now presented in a conservation mount with a certificate of authenticity signed by the publishers.

Only a small number of matching-number portfolios are available.

Here Comes The Sun — West Signed

Songs by George Harrison – Prints Portfolio

Original hand-numbered, titled lithograph signed by Keith West.

Published in 1987 alongside the Genesis limited edition Songs by George Harrison, this lithograph forms part of the collaborative series developed by Harrison and Keith West, presenting a contemplative visual interpretation of one of his most enduring compositions.

Written for the 1969 album Abbey Road, 'Here Comes The Sun' emerged during a period when Harrison sought respite from the business pressures surrounding Apple Corps. Visiting his friend Eric Clapton, Harrison found inspiration walking in Clapton’s garden as spring arrived after a long English winter.

“The relief of not having to go and see all those dopey accountants was wonderful… I was walking around the garden with one of Eric’s acoustic guitars and wrote ‘Here Comes The Sun’.” – George Harrison

Celebrated for its message of renewal and optimism, the song has been recorded by artists across generations, becoming one of George Harrison's most enduring and widely recognised compositions. Keith West’s illustration reflects the contemplative optimism of the song, expressing themes of light, renewal and spiritual perspective through symbolic imagery that feels both timeless and visually memorable.

This edition has remained largely unseen from the Genesis archive for more than three decades. Titled, numbered and signed in pencil by the artist, each 17" x 25" print has been preserved flat since publication and is now presented in a conservation mount with a certificate of authenticity signed by the publishers.

An elegant surviving example of the creative partnership between George Harrison and Keith West created for the original Genesis edition.
