Founded in 1974 by the late Brian Roylance, Genesis Publications marks 50 years since its first release in 1975. Roylance, a passionate photographer and visionary publisher, began his career at just 15 in the photographic reproduction department of a national daily newspaper. From that early start, he was rarely seen without a camera.
As part of our anniversary celebrations, we’re opening the Genesis archives to share a unique perspective—Brian Roylance’s own photography, captured during his work with iconic authors and artists including Sir Peter Blake, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Sir George Martin, Nick Mason, Tom Petty, Ravi Shankar, Ringo Starr, and many more.
These candid, behind-the-scenes images—the majority never seen before—are being brought together for the first time in a new monograph titled Photo Pass. Though Brian never needed an actual “photo pass” to document these moments—many of the featured artists were personal friends—his photographs offer an intimate, all-access view into the world of Genesis and its celebrated collaborators from 1975 to 2005.
Photo Pass follows our highly anticipated limited edition anthology Artist Pass (available to pre-order here) and continues our 50th anniversary celebrations with a powerful new lens on the Genesis legacy.
