Genesis Remembers Brian Wilson

It is with deep sadness that Genesis marks the passing of Brian Wilson. Described by his Beach Boys bandmate Al Jardine as “a humble musical giant,” Brian has long been admired by all of us at Genesis, as well as by so many of our subscribers.

We were deeply honoured to collaborate with Brian on several unforgettable projects. The first was in 2003, when we filmed an interview with him for a video documentary. During that conversation, Brian spoke candidly about his admiration for the Beatles and reflected on the writing and recording of his own timeless compositions.



In 2005, Genesis created a special leather-bound volume of Brian's handwritten music and lyrics for Pet Sounds. On the night that Brian was celebrated as the MusiCares Person of the Year, the Pet Sounds book was auctioned to benefit the charity, with bidding on the one-of-one book closing at $105,000.



In 2008, we embarked on a dream collaboration with Brian and British pop artist Peter Blake—a music and art project celebrating Brian’s life in California. The resulting limited edition, That Lucky Old Sun, was launched on 2nd July 2009, marked by a remarkable acoustic performance by Brian and his band exclusively for Genesis subscribers. National newspapers called it “the best private view ever” and “the gig of the year.” One of our subscribers kindly wrote to us this morning, recalling it as “one of the musical highlights of my life.”



These are just a few of the treasured moments we shared with Brian over the years. Perhaps the greatest privilege was being entrusted as the publisher of The Beach Boys by The Beach Boys, the first and only official book created by the band.

As fans, collaborators, and friends, we are heartbroken, yet profoundly grateful for the extraordinary music, memories, and joy that Brian has given the world. Today, we send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends, and invite you to join us in celebrating Brian’s remarkable legacy.
