This week marks the anniversary of the final, unforgettable night of The Rolling Stones' Tour of the Americas '75, which brought the curtain down in spectacular style at Rich Stadium, Buffalo.
After ten wild weeks on the road, the madness reached its peak: the band took to the stage in matching Afro-style “Billy Preston” wigs, members of the crew joined the chaos for a full-stage dance-up, and the atmosphere backstage was electric with celebration, farewells, and the final flashes of tour life.
T.O.T.A '75 captures the historic tour in vivid detail and offers a glimpse of what came next: Ted Newman Jones III returned to the Ozark Mountains to build guitars, eventually founding the world-famous Newman Guitars brand; the Gentle Giants bodyguards moved on to look after The Who; stage manager Brian Croft packed away his lights and stage sets; and the band members themselves went their separate ways — Ronnie Wood, the group's newest member, rejoined The Faces on tour just two days later.
Even Commander Rudge headed home to begin planning Stage II of the world tour. And the tour's appointed photographer and diarist? Exhausted but exhilarated, Christopher Sykes headed to Cape Cod to rest with the Shrivers at the Kennedy Compound, dreaming already of turning hundreds of rolls of undeveloped film into a book for the band. That work is now available as a magnificent handmade book and boxed set, in an official limited edition published with the Rolling Stones.
