Sometime In New York City

Bob Gruen, Yoko Ono

'Walk through the park and there are people holding hands and kissing. New York is beginning to look like Paris when I was younger, when I was twenty-four and people were holding hands and kissing under bridges. It's happening again. People are dreaming again.' - John Lennon

Sometime in New York City is a tale of two people and one city: the romance of John and Yoko set against the vibrant backdrop of New York. The book documents the last decade of John Lennon’s life with Yoko Ono, illustrated with a collection of intimate photographs selected from the archive of Bob Gruen.

THE PHOTOGRAPHS

Sometime In New York City

'We felt comfortable with Bob taking our pictures. Of course, we liked his photos, too. We looked real in them. Bob was cool and hip and he still is.' - Yoko Ono

In 1971, John Lennon and Yoko Ono moved to New York. Soon after, Bob Gruen discovered they were living just around the corner.

'We became friends the way you get to be friends with anybody. You meet, get along, share a sense of humour and get more friendly as time passes.' - Bob Gruen

The complete story is told in the words of Yoko Ono and Bob Gruen, with archival text from John Lennon himself, and through the intimate photographs - mostly reproduced in full colour and many previously unpublished - selected from the archive of Bob Gruen.
