Moonage Daydream (Publisher's Copies)

Anniversary Edition

David Bowie, Mick Rock

‘The closest we’ll ever get to a straight up Bowie autobiography — but who’d ever want anything straight-up from Bowie?’ – Rolling Stone

In 2002, David Bowie and Mick Rock created Moonage Daydream, the defining document of the life and times of Ziggy Stardust. Twenty years later, it remains the closest readers will get to understanding Bowie through his own words.

First published as a signed limited edition, Moonage Daydream sold out in a matter of months and became lore among David Bowie fans. Now, on the 50th anniversary of Bowie's acclaimed album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, the book is available once more as an Anniversary Edition for bookstores worldwide. Exclusively for Genesis subscribers, for a limited time a short run of books are being presented as Publisher's Copies.

The Photography

Moonage Daydream (Publisher's Copies)

'This is a book of extraordinary photographs. Ziggy Stardust blazed briefly but intensely, and I am delighted to see his life and times as a rock'n'roll star immortalised in this book.' - David Bowie

659 photographs from Mick Rock's Ziggy Stardust archive are featured, including 314 in colour. They capture the span of Ziggy's 18-month reign: the early English concerts where Ziggy and the Spiders made their name; Rock's classic images of Bowie at home at Haddon Hall; Bowie's collaboration with Lindsay Kemp in the ground-breaking shows at The Rainbow; the breakthrough tour of the USA; the massive sell-out UK tour culminating in Ziggy's retirement; recording Pin Ups in Paris; and Ziggy's final swansong, the flamboyant 1980 Floor Show.

Live pictures are balanced by informal shoots - Bowie in the dressing room, applying stage make-up, travelling, or socialising with musicians and friends including Lou Reed, Iggy Pop and Mick Jagger. Formal studio sessions include those for the Pin Ups sleeve and the four pioneering music videos that Rock directed and filmed for Bowie.

'A dazzling look back at one of the singer's most memorable phases of his career - the persona that made him an international superstar.' - Forbes

'Mr B has never previously gone on record in such detail about the origins, inspirations, mutations and peregrinations of our inimitable idol, Mr Stardust. In fact, I've learned a lot that I didn't glean at the time about the whole crazy affair...' - Mick Rock

Alongside over 600 photographs taken by Mick Rock, Bowie's personal and often humorous commentary gives unprecedented insight into his work and the creation of his most memorable persona. Readers can see how Bowie singlehandedly challenged and elevated 1970s culture through his style, his inspirations ranging from Kubrick to Kabuki, and his creative spirit, which endures through the decades.

'Another masterpiece from Genesis Publications [which] features a 15,000-word text by Bowie, who's hardly ever gone on record, certainly not at such length and with so much detail, about Ziggy and the glam era.' - The Washington Post

Celebrating 50 years of Ziggy Stardust, the Anniversary Edition presents Moonage Daydream as the authors intended. It is printed in the same large format as the sold-out limited edition of 2002 (350mm x 250mm / 13 ¾" x 9 ¾"), and, at 328 pages in length, the new book reintroduces material cut from the hardback printing of 2005.

Presented in a new blue cloth binding, finished with gold lightning flashes, the Publisher's Copies feature an authentication page stamped by the David Bowie Estate and are housed in a protective slipcase.

Within the set is an exclusive Mick Rock Estate-stamped print of a photograph not previously included in Moonage Daydream. Produced from the negative at Rock's preferred photo lab in New York, the colour C-type reproduces a stunning live shot of Bowie onstage at London's Earl's Court, in May 1973, and is suitable for framing (203mm x 254mm / 8" x 10").
