When We Was Fab

Produced as a limited edition of 750 signed and numbered copies, our aim with When We Was was to surpass the high quality standards which have become the Genesis benchmark.

Although collectors may be familiar with several of the images of the early Beatles and other musicians in Hamburg in this book, we believe that these photographs will never have been viewed in such an extraordinary quality of reproduction.

I have decided it is time to create one book in which I am totally involved so that it contains the pictures I like most, printed the way I would print them, even down to the text and design, with of course the help of Genesis. This book is for people who are interested in photography in the Sixties and in the way I saw my friends and depicted them in the best way that I could. Each of the 41 images in this very large format book is finely printed in tri-tone (two runs of black plus warm grey) and image varnished. The text for the book is printed in gold ink onto a rich black background, following the exact layout created by Astrid Kirchherr. This is the largest format book yet produced by Genesis. Eleven of the images are included as large folding plates.
