This beautifully produced book honours George Harrison's legacy, from his early days right through to the tribute concert that celebrated his life, told by the people that knew and loved him. Published 20 years ago in 2004 and long-since sold out, this is perhaps a last chance to purchase a brand-new boxed copy from Genesis. 7 available.
The Concert for George brought together some of the world's finest performers for an unprecedented night of celebration. Rock stars, comedians and classical musicians took the stage at the Royal Albert Hall in perfect harmony, united by one thing: a love for their friend George Harrison, whose earthly life came to an end exactly one year before. This classic limited edition takes you backstage at one of the most legendary concerts in music history, with a VIP pass, previously unseen photographs and an original text from those who took part.
The show's legendary cast of musicians - including Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton and Tom Petty - were photographed performing by Jill Furmanovsky and Richard Young, with behind-the-scenes photographs capturing them backstage and in rehearsals. Across more than 308 pages, hundreds of images from some of the world's most respected photographers document George's incredible life - alongside previously unpublished family photos and holiday snaps.
Telling the stories behind the pictures, George's friends and family - nearly 40 contributors in all - share their personal memories. The book's list of contributors includes: Gary Brooker, Joe Brown, Mike Campbell, Jim Capaldi, Eric Clapton, Ray Cooper, Terry Gilliam, Tom Hanks, Dhani Harrison, Olivia Harrison, Jools Holland, Eric Idle, Jim Keltner, Andy Fairweather Low, Jeff Lynne, George Martin, Michael Palin, Tom Petty, Billy Preston, Anoushka Shankar, Ravi Shankar, Ringo Starr, Klaus Voormann, and many more. Introduced by acclaimed novelist and travel writer Paul Theroux, each numbered copy of Concert for George is signed by Olivia Harrison.
Featuring bronze page edging, the book is hand-bound in silk-screened cloth over padded boards; the fabric design matching the original stage backdrops. Master printed with additional use of gold and bronze inks, vivid coloured tracing paper pages are also included throughout.
Those fortunate enough to attend the concert were given a 28-page commemorative booklet fastened with an orange silk ribbon. Printed onto cartridge paper stock, it contained eight images depicting George through the years. One of these original booklets is included within the folding solander box that houses the limited edition book. In a pocket, you'll also find four laminated backstage passes.
Each boxed copy will ship with the original publication brochures. Only seven copies are being made available.
