Psychedelic Renegades

'We were psychedelic renegades exploring an inner landscape where everything was turned upside down. We had penetrated the looking glass and were living in a parallel dimension where everyone was beautiful and spiritually free.' - Mick Rock

Mick Rock shared a personal friendship with Syd Barrett which began when they met at Cambridge University in the mid-1960s, and flourished when they both lived in London where at one point they shared a flat. In Psychedelic Renegades, Mick Rock tells their story for the first time.

The artist Duggie Fields, another of Syd's closest friends, joins Mick in recalling his memories of Syd. In his frank and sometimes humorous text, Fields describes life in the Earl's Court apartment where he and Syd lived. Many of Mick Rock's shots were taken here, including those taken in Syd's bedroom with the striped floorboards made famous in the Madcap cover photographs.
