SONGS OF GEORGE HARRISON 1
Soon after publishing Fifty Years Adrift, Brian Roylance bumped into the very talented botanical artist Keith West, in the Natural History Museum in London. Keith was looking for work after uprooting from his native New Zealand to move to London to illustrate an American poster project which had been shelved. Brian suggested to George Harrison that Keith should do some trials to attempt to illustrate some of his song lyrics.
George, impressed by Keith's botanical watercolours, agreed. Keith returned to his remote cottage in North Wales, unlocked his mind and a wealth of fantastical imagery began to emerge. The successful collaboration between George and Keith had begun. Soon Keith found himself travelling south regularly to discuss with George the interpretations of his song lyrics. Pencil sketches were submitted firstly for George's approval and from these the extraordinary finished paintings were made.
Keith's brief return to New Zealand and to Australia, to promote the publication, hastened the selling out of the edition.
