Tuesday Self-Portrait

Chrissie Hynde

'I thank my lucky stars every day that I can play guitar, be in a rock band, and if I want to paint, I can paint. I don't want anything else. I'm totally satisfied with that.' – Chrissie Hynde

Nearly 200 unseen paintings by Chrissie Hynde are presented for the first time in her new limited edition book, ADDING THE BLUE. The publication follows Chrissie Hynde’s progression as an artist, beginning with still life studies and culminating in vibrant abstract compositions. A key painting from the collection, ‘Tuesday Self-Portrait’, is now being made available to Genesis subscribers as a limited edition print. Only 50 prints will be created, each numbered and individually signed by Chrissie Hynde.

CHRISSIE HYNDE

Tuesday Self-Portrait

Chrissie Hynde is best known as the singer, songwriter and leader of The Pretenders.

Formed in 1978, Chrissie and her band released their debut album Pretenders in 1979, after which nine albums followed, the latest being Alone which was released in 2016. Chrissie released a solo album, Stockholm in 2014 and has collaborated with a variety of legendary musicians throughout her career, from Neil Young to most recently, Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys.

Since 2015, Chrissie has focussed on another creative endeavour, painting. An accomplished and prolific artist, Chrissie works exclusively in oil on canvas with her art encompassing a wide variety of subjects including figures, portraits of friends and family, self-portraits and landscapes. The immediacy and energy evident in her work reveals Chrissie Hynde as an artist as passionate about her painting as her music.

Tuesday Self-Portrait

'I do most of my paintings in one go. Then afterwards there's this enormous sense of relief that I got through it. In that way, it's like music - the feeling I get after doing a show.' - Chrissie Hynde
