'I thank my lucky stars every day that I can play guitar, be in a rock band, and if I want to paint, I can paint. I don't want anything else. I'm totally satisfied with that.' – Chrissie Hynde
Nearly 200 unseen paintings by Chrissie Hynde are presented for the first time in her new limited edition book, ADDING THE BLUE. The publication follows Chrissie Hynde’s progression as an artist, beginning with still life studies and culminating in vibrant abstract compositions. A key painting from the collection, ‘Tuesday Self-Portrait’, is now being made available to Genesis subscribers as a limited edition print. Only 50 prints will be created, each numbered and individually signed by Chrissie Hynde.
As singer and leader of the Pretenders, Chrissie Hynde has written and recorded classic songs including 'Don't Get Me Wrong' and 'I'll Stand By You'.
Nine Pretenders albums have followed since the release of the band's self-titled debut that featured the 1979 hit single 'Brass in Pocket'. Chrissie Hynde has filled stadiums performing with artists such as U2, Cher and Frank Sinatra and, in 2014, released Stockholm, her first solo album. Hynde's limited edition, ADDING THE BLUE, presents an exclusive look at nearly 200 of her oil paintings, a selection of which is now being exhibited internationally in London and New York.
An accomplished and prolific painter, Hynde works exclusively in oil on canvas with her art encompassing a wide variety of subjects including figures, portraits of friends and family, self-portraits and landscapes. The immediacy and energy evident in her work reveals Chrissie Hynde as an artist as passionate about her painting as her music.
'I do most of my paintings in one go. Then afterwards there's this enormous sense of relief that I got through it. In that way, it's like music - the feeling I get after doing a show.' - Chrissie Hynde
In November 2015, Chrissie Hynde began work on the series of paintings published in ADDING THE BLUE. The following spring, 17th May 2016, Chrissie created 'Tuesday Self-Portrait', an oil on canvas painting that combines a love of both figurative and abstract styles. 'Tuesday Self-Portrait' is now being reproduced for Genesis subscribers as a numbered limited edition print (Giclée onto cotton rag paper), signed by Chrissie Hynde.
