War Is Over! Wins Academy Award

Inspired by the music of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, War Is Over! won an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film last night, marking the first Academy Award victory for filmmakers Dave Mullins and Brad Booker, along with producer Sean Ono Lennon.

 

This animated short tells the poignant tale of two World War I soldiers, set against the backdrop of John and Yoko's anti-war Christmas classic, 'Happy Xmas (War Is Over).' Engaged in a chess game through carrier pigeons, the soldiers are oblivious to the fact that they stand on opposing sides of the battle. During the acceptance speech, Sean Ono Lennon led the audience in extending warm Mother's Day wishes to his mother who couldn't attend.
