Unheard John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band Jam Session Revealed Alongside New Animated Video

16 Mar 2021

Marking the 50th Anniversary of John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, a previously unheard jam session has been released, along with a new animation video. The jam session with John Lennon and Ringo Starr also features artist and musician Klaus Voormann on bass and Billy Preston on drums, performing a cover of 'It'll Be Me' by Jerry Lee Lewis. 'It'll Be Me' features on the recently announced John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band Deluxe Box set, along with other jam sessions, new mixes, demos, live sessions, a photo book and more.

The new video for the session features surreal drawings by John Lennon, now brought to life alongside the lyrics for the song.

The first solo album to be released by Lennon after the breakup of the Beatles, it is widely regarded as one of Lennon's best. Speaking about the anniversary of the album, Klaus Voormann remembered the recording process:

'To me, this album is the best of all albums I've ever heard. It's so personal, [John] came into the studio with no songs, just sat down together with Yoko - always together with Yoko - and as quick as possible got what he just wrote onto tape. That was his aim and that's what he did. We all understood.' - Klaus Voormann
