Yoko Ono will be curating this year's Meltdown festival at London Southbank centre. She has revealed that The Plastic Ono Band will open the festival on 14th June 2013, and 'a host of very special guests' will perform Double Fantasy as the closing act.
Siouxsie will make her first appearance in 5 years and will
be joined by acts including Iggy And The Stooges, Patti Smith, Marianne
Faithfull, Thurston Moore and Boy George.
'I'm not pursuing big names for the sake of big names. I'm
thinking along the lines of a concept, which is more refreshing. There will
definitely be an element of feminism and the
plight of women and I am thinking of having one or two events where I ask men
to say something strong about themselves too.' - Yoko Ono
As well as music, the festival will include film screenings,
political speeches and performance art. Peaches will perform Yoko Ono's famous Cut
Piece, in which audience members are
invited to cut away the artist's clothing. This is just one of the many pieces
explored in Yoko's forthcoming limited edition, INFINITE UNIVERSE AT DAWN.
