USA Today are
trying to locate the people in Ringo Starr’s photograph – can you help?
Ringo took this picture during The Beatles’ first visit to the USA,
almost 50 years ago. The Beatles were booked to play The Ed Sullivan
Show whilst still relatively unknown in America, but by the time they
arrived, they were greeted by a crowd of 4,000 fans. An estimated 73 million
people tuned in to see the show, and Beatlemania swept the States.
‘They’re looking at us, and I’m photographing them. The first couple of
years, we saw a lot of places from the car because we couldn’t go out anywhere.
We were just too big time. Everybody wanted a piece of us, so getting out was a
big day.’– Ringo Starr in PHOTOGRAPH
