John Varvatos hosted the US premier of Lou Reed and Mick Rock’s TRANSFORMER book at his Bowery Store last Thursday, 3rd October.
‘Lou and Mick’s new book takes us on an amazing journey that has had a significant and lasting impact on music and fashion for over 40 years. True pioneers and re-inventors, I am excited to host them for their launch of this incredible, sexy, delicious, outrageous, inspiring, rebellious book from our friends at Genesis Publications.’ – John Varvatos
Lou and Mick shared stories, before signing copies of their limited edition book, for guests including Salman Rushdie. Rushdie was the previous recipient of the ‘Inspiration of the Year' GQ award, an honour awarded to Reed last month. Photographers Roxanne Lowit and Bob Gruen also attended the New York event.
‘After guests milled about, perusing the fruits of the artists’ labor, Rock and Lou took their places on a stage to talk about their history. Lou Reed’s adoration of Mick Rock came from his ability to capture him in a way that felt alive and real.’ – BlackBook Magazine
‘We took these photos for very honest reasons and it’s been maintained in the book. There’s nothing salacious; it’s just incredible heartfelt righteousness.’ – Lou Reed
