This Saturday, October 19th, is the 40th anniversary of David Bowie’s Pin Ups. To celebrate the occasion, a limited edition 7" vinyl picture disc of ‘Sorrow’ was released yesterday. The single, which reached number 3 in 1973, is backed with a live recording of the track from Bowie’s 1983 Serious Moonlight tour.
The disc features photography from Genesis author Mick Rock, who talks about the session in his new limited edition, TRANSFORMER, with Lou Reed.
‘I always use a Hasselblad now. The Bowie Pin Ups saxophone session was the first time I used one, but I hadn’t done much studio work up until then. I must have made a couple of extra dollars and decided I needed it.’ – Mick Rock
‘So that’s moving on up!’ – Lou Reed
You can add to your picture disc collection with TRANSFORMER, as each book comes with a 7” vinyl of Reed’s ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ and ‘Coney Island Baby’. Unseen outtakes from both tracks’ album cover shoots, taken by Rock, are reproduced here for the first time in a limited edition of just 2,000 copies.
