Sir Peter's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Sir Peter Blake has remade his legendary Sgt. Pepper cover to celebrate his 80th birthday. The 'Godfather of British Pop Art' has chosen the cultural figures he most admires to celebrate the UK's creative output, including Genesis contributors Paul Weller, Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, and Eric Clapton.

'I had a very long list of people who I wanted to go in but couldn't fit everyone in - I think that shows how strong British culture and its legacy of the last six decades is.' - Sir Peter Blake

Blake digitally created the 2012 version rather than assembling and hand-colouring cardboard cut outs as he did for the 1967 cover of Sgt. Pepper, but still found the work very time consuming.

'I often thought that if I did it again it would be very quick on the computer but it was very laborious.' - Sir Peter Blake

The artwork will be shown at Blake's birthday celebrations at Wayne Hemingway's Vintage festival at Boughton House, Northamptonshire this July.
