Faces Rock the Hall of Fame
16 Apr 2012
The Faces/Small Faces were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by
Steven Van Zandt on Saturday, 13th April. Lead singer Rod Stewart could not attend the ceremony due to a sore throat, but Mick Hucknall rejoined the Faces in his place and
Rod's band member Conrad Korsch filled in for the late Ronnie Lane on base.
'Lead singers are dropping like flies. Rod, Axl Rose...We were completely gutted by the news. Rod was totally gutted by the way.' - Ronnie Wood
The band didn't let Rod's absence detract from their performance of hit songs 'Ooh La La', 'Stay With Me' and Small Faces' 'All Or Nothing', which received rave reviews across the music press.
'Ron Wood played guitar with fiery passion...Ian McLagan demonstrated that he's still one of the greatest keyboardists in rock and roll, and drummer Kenney Jones still has the chops that got him Keith Moon's old job in the late 1970s.' - Rolling Stone
Other inductees were
Guns N' Roses (minus Axl Rose who declined his induction), Donovan, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Laura Nyro, the Beastie Boys and Freddie King. Backing bands were honoured this year, along with producers Don Kirshner, Cosimo Matassa, Tom Dowd and Glyn Johns.
The Rock Hall induction ceremony will be broadcast by HBO, debuting at 9 p.m. EST/PST on May 5, and
FACES 1969-75 is available to order now with a special commemorative folding case.
