Davy Jones 1945-2012

Davy Jones died on Wednesday, 29
th February, at
his home in Florida. Fellow Monkees, Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork and Michael
Nesmith have led the tributes to the well-loved performer.

Jones entertained from an early age, starring in musicals
and TV shows before catapulting to fame as a member of The Monkees. Originally
constructed in 1966 as America's answer to The Beatles, they followed in their
footsteps and became the second band to have a simultaneous UK and US number
one record. Jones continued recording throughout the 1970s after The Monkees
split, and reunited with the band due to popular demand in 1987. Last year, the
band embarked upon a 45
th Anniversary tour, and Davy Jones' last
performance was just ten days before his unexpected death.

passing of my long-time friend and fellow-adventurer, David Jones. His talent
will be much missed; his gifts will be with us always.'
