Changes: Japan

The Paul Smith Space Gallery captured the fusion of British and Japanese culture at a reception for SPEED OF LIFE and the Japanese launch of Bowie and Sukita's new collaboration, the CHANGES collection.

'CHANGES at the Paul Smith Space Gallery explores the friendship between the photographer and musician through images both formal and informal. In the late 1970s, musicians and artists alike would inevitably collide. One such person caught up in this creative frenzy was a young Japanese photographer, Masayoshi Sukita. As someone that has documented the past 40 years so fervently, Sukita can now afford to enjoy being in the same position as his subjects: as the centre of attention.' - Stuart Munro, The Japan Times

The lighting, drinks, and even cubes of jelly reflected the pink and blue theme chosen by Bowie and Sukita for their limited edition book, SPEED OF LIFE. Now both artists have selected photographs that represent their creative partnership and its impact on both their careers. To see the CHANGES collection, click here.

Photos by Teru Utsunomiya (宇都宮輝)- at Paul Smith Japan. Exhibition of the CHANGES collection is from August 25th to  September 30th, 2012 at Paul Smith 'Space', Tokyo, Japan. Click here to see more photos from the exhibition.
