Astrid At Mathew Street Festival
28 Aug 2003
Thousands of Beatles fans congregated in Liverpool city centre last weekend for what was the biggest Mathew Street Festival ever.
Astrid and Jackie
Among the weekend's highlights was the attendance of Astrid Kirchherr, who was in Liverpool to talk about her new Genesis limited edition When We Was Fab. Beatles fans had the opportunity to meet Astrid at the Mathew Street Gallery and at the Beatles Convention which took place at the Adelphi. Among the guests was Jackie Lomax, who was delighted to see a photograph of himself in Astrid's book.
Naturally Astrid was pleased to meet up again with Jackie who now lives in Ventura County, California. Astrid and Jackie had dinner with Genesis representatives on Sunday night along with two of the actors from Backbeat, Scot Williams and Chris O'Neill, who played Paul and George.
Leading Liverpool papers devoted pages to Astrid and When We Was Fab. The Liverpool Echo, Liverpool's famous evening paper ran a double page spread on Astrid the day after interviewing her at the city's Beatles Festival last weekend. In the article of Monday 25th August, Peter Grant called the book 'a limited edition masterpiece'
On the same day The Daily Post devoted the lion's share of Philip Key's Arts Diary to Astrid and the book.
