In an interview with Rolling Stone
, Janis Joplin's sister, Laura, has explained the motivations behind sharing Janis's scrapbook for the first time. Janis Joplin: Days & Summers
brings the scrapbook that Janis kept between 1966-1968 to life, alongside rare photographs and a text commentary from the people who knew her best. Laura explains that her scrapbook is a way of learning about finer details of Janis's extraordinary life.
'It came together through the curiosity and desire of Janis. It gives you a way to focus on the smaller moments in a person's life, and so much of who a person is comes from those moments.' - Laura Joplin
Published for the first time and limited to 2,000 copies, the scrapbook provides an unedited account of the singer's life and her journey to stardom. For Laura, it is also a way to revisit her memories of Janis and ground her incredible legacy.
'She was so important to me in my life and she lived for such a short time, but yet has had a legacy that has brought me into her life in a way that I never would have connected with if she had continued being able to speak for herself.' - Laura Joplin
