Earlier this month the trailer for the highly anticipated documentary Echo in the Canyon was released. Featuring Brian Wilson, Ringo Starr, Graham Nash, the late Tom Petty and other music legends, this nostalgic film explores and celebrates the music that came out of Los Angeles' Laurel Canyon in the mid-1960s.
Directed by Andrew Slater, and with Jakob Dylan as the film's executive producer, narrator and interviewer, the documentary includes a variety of interviews interspersed with archival footage. In conversation with Dylan, songwriters describe the music scene and atmosphere of creativity that led to what later became known as the California Sound.
"The best test of songwriting is that it transcends its moment in time and there is no doubt that the songs we explore in this film are as powerful today as they were in 1965," Jakob Dylan said in a statement about the film.
The film had its premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival last year, and screens again in Los Angeles on May 24th at Arclight's Cinerama Dome and the Landmark, followed by a premiere in New York at the Angelika and The Landmark at 57 West on May 31st. A national release follows in June.
