Dancers of The Royal Ballet + The Rolling Stones: Raising Awareness For The Arts

10 Jun 2020

Stars from the Royal Ballet in Covent Garden, London have released a video entitled "Ghost Light" to raise awareness for Acting for Others, a network of charities providing support for theatre workers. The film shows them dancing in the streets to the Rolling Stones' latest song, "Ghost Town" which poignantly includes the line, "Life was so beautiful / Then we all got locked down".

Directed by Mick Jagger's partner, the dancer and choreographer, Melanie Hamrick and dancer and producer, Joanna DeFelice, the performers can be seen outside iconic places such as The Royal Opera House, Shakespeare's Globe, the Apollo Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue and Dublin's Abbey Theatre, all venues that are currently closed down due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is not the first time that Hamrick has been inspired by Rolling Stones songs, last year, she unveiled a ballet in New York entitled Porte Rouge inspired by and featuring Rolling Stones songs, opening with "Sympathy for the Devil".

Artistic inspiration from The Rolling Stone's tracks can also be found in Ronnie Wood's latest limited edition, The Rolling Stones Set Lists. Wood, The Rolling Stones' effective "artist in residence", has captured all the songs that the group have played at their rehearsals and gigs for years in his vibrantly painted set lists. These have been collected and annotated in his own words in this beautiful signed, limited edition, available to buy here.
