Chuck D Announces New Original Podcast
07 Jun 2023
Just last week,
Chuck D announced that he will be narrating a new Audible Original podcast series about the origins of hip-hop in New York's South Bronx in the early 1970s. The five-part series
Can You Dig It? will premiere on August 10th in honour of the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip-hop.
The main focus of the podcast will be on the lesser-told story of the murder of a young Ghetto Brothers gang member, Cornell "Black Benjie" Benjamin, and the truce that followed. This truce resulted in a safer and closer community which created the perfect moment for the beginnings of the genre with the famous August 13th, 1973 ' Back to School' party by DJ Kool Herc, which is considered the catalyst for the spread of hip-hop.
Chuck D talks about this historic moment and more in his autobiographical book of art,
Livin' Loud. Copies of the signed limited
Collector and
Deluxe editions, containing signed prints and a reproduction sketchbook, are still available at the pre-publication price. Click here to secure your copy. The hardback bookstore version is available via:
