60 Years Ago: Beatles Rock The London Palladium
11 Jan 2024
On this day in 1964, the Fab Four appeared on Val Parnell's Sunday Night At The London Palladium performing 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand', 'This Boy', 'All My Loving', 'Money' and 'Twist And Shout' to an estimated UK audience of up to 15 million viewers.
Three months prior, The Beatles earned £250 for their appearance on this show. Now, their fee had skyrocketed to £1,000, a reflection of their rapid escalation in popularity and the rise of 'Beatlemania'. 60 years ago, The Beatles were on the cusp of global success - only a month later they would take the USA by storm.
'I used to set my camera up on a tripod so that I could take photographs of the television, especially when Paul was on.' - Mike McCartney
