50th Anniversary of Enter the Dragon

17 Aug 2023

This week marks 50 years since the release of Enter the Dragon, Bruce Lee's final completed film before his death on the 20th of July 1973. An American and Hong Kong co-production, it premiered in Los Angeles one month after his tragic passing.
For Bruce Lee, Enter the Dragon was the opportunity he had been waiting for - his big Hollywood break. After being recognised for his success in Hong Kong, it was his time to show the world an authentic representation of Chinese culture. As revealed in In My Own Process, this meant having creative control in all areas of the film's production, including the film title.
'It was of utmost importance to my father that this film reflect his art and culture accurately and with depth. This was his moment to show the world who he was and what a Chinese gung fu man could do, and he was not going to settle for mediocre.' - Shannon Lee
Originally titled Blood and Steel, Bruce wrote numerous letters to Warner Brothers campaigning for a name change to Enter the Dragon. Eventually, the head of Warner Brothers at the time, Ted Ashley, wrote back to Bruce confirming the name would be changed. Bruce also had a huge number of edits to the script, which originally contained almost none of the iconic scenes that we know and love today.
50 years on, it is widely regarded as one of the greatest martial arts films of all time. For many people, it is their first introduction to Bruce Lee and one that inspires them to learn more about his early films, philosophy and martial arts practice.
In partnership with the family of Bruce Lee, Genesis is proud to present In My Own Process, the official book documenting the life and work of one of the most significant cultural icons of all time. Published in the fiftieth year of his passing, this exclusive multimedia set offers readers the definitive book of his spectacular career. Secure your copy today at
