MR: I went to visit Lou to look over the results of that night's shooting. He was especially interested in the black-and-white contact sheets and quickly zoned in on a certain frame. The minute Lou saw the print, he said, 'That's the cover.'

Mick and I just hit it off and I really liked his photos, so that was that. I'm out of the Warhol Factory, so I'd been watching Andy and Billy Linich use that high-contrast look for years, wanting a chance to use the idea myself. Then Mick took this terrific photo.
