Yesterday, Monday 16th July, Jon Lord passed away aged 71 at the London Clinic following a long battle with cancer. As a founder member of Deep Purple, Lord co-wrote hits such as 'Smoke on the Water' and helped develop the progressive rock genre. A talented keyboardist, he also played for bands including Whitesnake and the Kinks.
'His contribution to music and classic rock was immeasurable.' - Rick Wakeman
Throughout his career Lord contributed to many projects, including a book in tribute to his friend, Traffic's Jim Capaldi. Like Capaldi, Lord will live on through his music and the memories of his friends.
'Jim will live on for me with that slightly Captain Hook way of looking at life... he had a fabulous voice, very tuneful, soulful, and didn't he just write some great lyrics?' - Jon Lord, from MR FANTASY
