FINAL CALL FOR 'FROM STATION TO STATION'

Final layouts are now being drafted for Genesis Publications' forthcoming limited edition, From Station to Station.

Written by Geoff MacCormack - formerly known as Warren Peace - and featuring a trove of unseen personal photographs and memorabilia, the book is a travelogue covering the years between 1973 and 1976 when Geoff travelled around the world with David Bowie as a backing singer and percussionist.

Geoff and David have been friends since their schooldays and From Station to Station is a warm, intimate and very funny account of their time travelling together - through the final days of Ziggy and The Spiders; six albums, one film and several tours; through the pines and plains of Siberia, the strangeness of Japan, the madness of LA, and falling to earth in New Mexico.

From Station to Station is expected to be ready in the spring of 2007. For more information and to register your interest, click here.

Keep an eye on BowieNet for exclusive features and offers coming soon.

Geoff ponders why flares, platforms and nylon jackets ever went out of fashion.

On Thursday 7th December the Victoria Jones Gallery invited Genesis Publications to their opening night the 'Living With The Legends' exhibition and to show some of our books alongside the outstanding artwork.

Key to the evening was the arrival of photographer Toby Cohen whose portrait photography had everyone talking. Jerry Schatzberg, author of Thin Wild Mercury says: "I like Toby's work. Good eye and heart."

A selection of Genesis titles are available to browse and order throughout the exhibition which runs from December 7th-23rd, Monday-Saturday, 10am-6pm. Click here for more information.

TODD HAYNES: THIN WILD MERCURY

Genesis subscribers may have heard about an exciting new film in production, entitled "I'm Not There: Suppositions On A Film Concerning Dylan". Starring Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Richard Gere, Heath Ledger and Julianne Moore, "I'm Not There" is the highly anticipated biographical feature reflecting the life of Bob Dylan.

"I'm Not There" is written and directed by a Genesis reader, Todd Haynes, and we thought subscribers who own a copy of our new Bob Dylan limited edition, Thin Wild Mercury, would appreciate hearing Todd's thoughts on his copy of the book:

"This stunning collection of Schatzberg's most famous sessions is a must for any serious Dylan collector. Before the days of digital photography and airbrush, these exquisite reproductions bring out texture and detail like never seen before. Their powerful simplicity, beauty and humour is sure to dazzle fans and novices alike."
Todd Haynes / Writer, Director "I'm Not There: Suppositions On A Film Concerning Dylan".

If you have not ordered your own copy of Thin Wild Mercury, we recommend that you do so, whilst stocks of this beautiful hand-signed book remain available to purchase. The edition is strictly limited to 1,500 numbered copies worldwide. For further information, and to order now, click here.

Our thanks to Todd for sending us this wonderful compliment. Here at Genesis we're wishing "I'm Not There" all the best for it's release.

GEORGE MARTIN INDUCTED INTO THE UK MUSIC HALL OF FAME

The UK Music Hall of Fame was founded in 2004 to give suitable honour to musicians for their lifetime of achievment in the music industry and George has joined the likes of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Queen along with other elite few. On his induction yesterday George had this to say:

'I think the reason I am here today is I have been a very lucky man and I have worked with the greatest people in showbusiness, performers and writers. It rubs off working with people like that, it makes all the difference in the world.'

His latest collaboration with Genesis, Summer of Love, has recently gone on general release to huge acclaim and will no doubt sell out as quickly as his memoirs, Playback.

Celebrating 40 years since The Beatles began work on Sgt. Pepper's, Summer of Love tells the album's story from behind the recording desks at Abbey Road studios and is essential reading for any serious Beatles fan. Click here to order and learn more.

Being used to working in the studio at all hours of the day, George is still as busy as ever. After the phenomenal success of the 'Love' collaboration with Cirque Du Soleil Monday sees the general release of the album of this music. To coincide with this the BBC are airing an interview with the man himself at 9pm on BBC6 Music (a digital radio station).

Keep an eye on our website over the coming months as the celebrations begin in earnest for the 2007 40th anniversary of the making of Sgt. Peppers in that 'Summer of Love'.

RONNIE WOOD: HIS THOUGHTS ON TOTA '75!

It has been a great pleasure to work with the Rolling Stones to produce TOTA '75. At Genesis we would like to say thank you to the band and all concerned for their great reactions so far.

Here is what Ronnie Wood had to say: "This book is incredible and it takes me right back to that first tour!" If you own a copy already, hopefully you will agree it is one of Genesis finest books ever.

If you have not yet ordered TOTA' 75, we recommend you have a look here to see more. It is truly a milestone in the Genesis catalogue - the book is, after all, some 30 years in the making! In 1975 the Rolling Stones asked Christopher Simon Sykes to make a diary of their forthcoming tour. Only now is it available - in all its glory, and as a fabulous and in-depth, fine art piece.

Copies of TOTA '75 are available for pre-Christmas delivery - for more information & to order your copy please click here.

GENESIS AND PAUL WELLER

Genesis Publications is honoured to announce the planned release in Spring 2007 of A Thousand Things, a collaboration with Paul Weller.

A Thousand Things will be a limited edition of just 2,000 copies charting the recording history of one of Britain's greatest ever songwriters, with original text by the Modfather himself and a mixture of rare, unseen and iconic photos.

The planned release will coincide with the 30th anniversary of The Jam's debut single, 'In The City'. Paul Weller has been at the vanguard of British music throughout those three decades, having created era-defining records in each: from 'Eton Rifles' and 'Going Underground' with The Jam, The Style Council's 'Speak Like A Child' and 'Shout To The Top', to his masterful solo records including 'Wild Wood', 'You Do Something To Me', 'Broken Stones' and, more recently, 'Blink And You'll Miss It'.

Quite rightly, he was recently given a Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music.

ELVIS & THE BIRTH OF ROCK - UPDATE

Fifty years in the waiting, we are proud to announce that the forthcoming Elvis Presley limited edition from Genesis Publications is close to completion. Going under the working title 'Elvis Presley Limited Edition' we can now say that it is called 'Elvis & the Birth of Rock'.

It has been an honour for Genesis to work with Lew Allen; author of the photographs used, and aged only 17 at the time these Elvis pictures were taken. A labour strike at the three main newspapers in Cleveland meant that he was the only serious photographer there. The pictures were all taken between 1956 and 1958 at three concerts (Cleveland Arena, Rochester Community War Memorial and Rochester Auditorium Theatre) and have never before been published.

Shown to the right is Genesis's own Sally Millard, editor of Elvis & the Birth of Rock, checking the quality of the images. The book features 78 pictures including other artists such as Buddy Holly, The Everly Brothers, Bobby Darin, Frankie Avalon and many more.

All 1,750 books in the edition have been signed by both Lew Allen and guest editor Mike McCartney. Available fully bound in blue suede with silver foiling and page edging (shown left) or boasting a quarter-bound suede binding with lithographed images taken from the book (shown right). Both are housed in a bespoke box (shown in the centre).

For more information and to pre-order your copy please contact us on +44 (0) 1483 540970 where a member of the Genesis team will be happy to tell you more. Alternatively please feel free to contact David at davidw@genesis-publications.com

As a note to our regular subscribers we will be sending out brochures and updating the website very shortly with more images and information regarding this very special limited edition.

EXILE SOLD ON EBAY FOR $2650

Once again a Genesis title is making the headlines as it is sold for considerably more than the original purchase price. A week ago a regular copy of Exile sold for $2650 plus postage on the popular auction website eBay.

Exile delved extensively into Dominique Tarlé's archive of photographs taken of the Rolling Stones at the Villa Nellcôte in the south of France. Published in 2001 the deluxe copies sold out immediately and the regular versions soon after.

T.O.T.A. '75 is the latest Rolling Stones offering from Genesis, the Christopher Simon Sykes 1975 tour diary that took 30 years to be published, and has been selling equally well with a small number of Commander copies still available. Which makes us wonder what price these amazing books will go for in five years time.

To find out more and to order T.O.T.A. '75 - The Rolling Stones Tour of the Americas 1975, click here.

Exile can be found in our Hall of Fame section for fully subscribed editions.

DYLAN BY SCHATZBERG BOOK SIGNING

Our thanks to The National Arts Club, New York, who hosted a wonderful book-signing event, to celebrate the launch of Thin Wild Mercury, with Jerry Schatzberg, 13th September.

Founded in 1898, the National Arts Club has a prestigious history. Three American presidents, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and Dwight D. Eisenhower, were all members. The Club's current members gave Thin Wild Mercury a wonderful reception.

The book of Bob Dylan photographs proved so popular that all copies available on the night were sold out. You can still purchase Jerry Schatzberg's book online here, and every copy is hand-signed by the multi-talented writer, director and photographer.

We were also pleased to invite many of New York's Genesis subscribers. Nick Roylance and Ann McFarlane enjoyed meeting everyone that attended. If you were there, we hope you enjoy seeing some photos from the evening and we look forward to returning to the States soon.

TESSA DEPARTS

We are sad to announce that Tessa Hodgson is no longer working for Genesis Publications. After many years of extremely loyal service, primarily as PA to Genesis' founder Brian Roylance, she has moved on to new pastures.

We will miss her as, we're sure, will the many customers whom she came to call friends. The good news is that her partner, David, who for the past two years has worked for Genesis in a part-time capacity, will take over her duties dealing with orders and distribution. So, hopefully, Tessa will still be seen at the occasional Genesis event!

I'm sure everyone who has dealt with Tessa in the past joins us in wishing her luck for the future.

SHIPPING UPDATE - USA

Due to a security alert at Heathrow Airport, England, outbound and incoming flights are subject to delays and security levels have been increased accordingly. We apologise to our overseas customers because this has had a knock-on effect with sending out your books.

A plot to blow up planes in flight from the UK to the US and commit "mass murder on an unimaginable scale" has been disrupted, Scotland Yard has said.

We will keep you informed with any changes and hope that normal service resumes soon.

UPDATE 16th August 2006 - Deliveries to the USA are 'getting back to normal' - as quoted by our shipping company.

BIGGER BASH EXHIBITION UPDATE

The Bigger Bash exhibition finished on the 31st with the Rolling Stones' A Bigger Bang Tour hitting the Amsterdam Arena that evening. Genesis' own Tessa and David were in attendance and were overwhelmed with the response from fans that saw our latest Stones title, TOTA.

"I never imagined the scope of that (the 1975 Tour of the Americas) tour before, the images really bring it to life - and Keith, I mean wow, in fact the whole band look fantastic - I hope tonight will be just as amazing!" - Mogens Vanderbilt, Amsterdam.

There were plenty of characters doing the rounds, fans that have a real passion for the Rolling Stones and their music. Which is something the Forty Licks Fanclub pride themselves on, 'The FLF fan club events are well-known for their sociable and entertaining atmosphere, i.e. hanging out with other Stones fans, drinking a few beers together and enjoying the music of the greatest Rock 'n Roll band in the world.'

Tessa and David also managed to get along to see the Stones live. It may be 30 years since their massive Tour of The Americas but they still put on a show described by David as "simply awesome".

We've put together some pictures of the event along with some of the best-dressed attendees. Please feel free to send your own pictures and we'll publish the best at a later date.

SYD BARRETT DIES, AGED 60

Genesis Publications is saddened to hear of the recent death of Syd Barrett. He passed away at the end of last week - early reports suggest Friday, July 7th - from complications due to diabetes. He was 60 years old.

Syd was a founding member of Pink Floyd. He left in 1968 having been the principal force behind the group s first album, Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. In 1969 he recorded a solo album, The Madcap Laughs, followed swiftly by the self-titled Barrett. Both albums featured contributions from other Floyd members; Floyd themselves would later honour him with their classic 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' .

Syd's mental health steadily deteriorated throughout this period, not helped by what was, allegedly, a heavy diet of hallucinogenic drugs. When his second album was poorly received he retreated to his mother's home in Cambridge and pretty much stayed there until his death. Genesis author Mick Rock knew Syd and even lived with him very briefly. His photographs of the troubled genius, taken between 1969 and 1971, are featured in Psychedelic Renegades.

Mick called Syd a "mad, bohemian poet" and wrote of their time together: "We had penetrated the looking glass and were living in a parallel dimension where everyone was beautiful and spiritually free." Despite his apparently modest musical output, Syd's influence over contemporary music is immense. He will be missed.

THIN WILD MERCURY LAUNCH

On Friday July 7, the Genesis team launched its latest limited edition book, Thin Wild Mercury, by Jerry Schatzberg at the Atlas Gallery in London.

Following the opening of an exhibition of Jerry's work at the same gallery - held the previous night - the book launch provided a handful of guests the chance to meet with Jerry and view copies of Thin Wild Mercury for the first time. Feedback on both the exhibition and the book was overwhelmingly positive.

Aided by a glass or two of champagne, and an avalanche of strawberries and cream, Genesis staff certainly enjoyed themselves. We hope all our guests did too!

Atlas Gallery is exhibiting Jerry's work until August 26. The book, Thin Wild Mercury, will also be on display and available to order along with prints.

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL - 'LOVE'

Tonight, Friday 30th June, sees the Las Vegas premiere of the latest show by those purveyors of circus magic, Cirque du Soleil. 'Love' opens at The Mirage and, for the first time ever, features the music of The Beatles as the soundtrack to a theatrical show.

'Love' is the result of a 2-year collaboration between Cirque de Soleil's choreographers and the legendary Beatles' producer Sir George Martin. Sir George was given unrestricted access to Apple's archive of Beatles' master recordings to remix a soundtrack for Cirque de Soleil's famous acrobatics.

Sir George Martin's autobiography, 'Playback', is now sold out. However, we will be announcing a further publishing project concerning the producer before the end of 2006. Click here to join our mailing list.

THE WHO RETURN TO INFAMOUS LEEDS

36 years ago this weekend The Who legendarily got up in front of hundreds of Leeds students and fans for quite possibly the most aurally stunning live performance in history, birthing the now infamous album; Live at Leeds. On June 17th 2006 at 7pm they came back for more.

At a ceremony Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey unveiled a blue Civic Trust plaque in the now world famous Leeds University Refectory to mark the occasion and later played for a packed house fit to bursting with 2000 fans past and present.

Genesis published The Who Live over three years ago, compiled with the help of Ross Halfin, an amazing archive of pictures it really gets into the feel and energy that simply course through every member of the band.

Fully sold out as you'd expect, but recently and completely by chance a stock re-organisation within Universal Records unearthed some mint copies. We're sure another opportunity like this won't be coming along again so if you want this highly acclaimed volume in your library, now would be a good time to act.

BILLY PRESTON 1946-2006

Genesis subscribers may already know of Billy Preston's passing, 6th June 2006. At Genesis we would like to offer our condolences to all his many friends and family.

Billy is known by many as 'the fifth Beatle', joining the band as he did for Let It Be, The White Album and Abbey Road. A wonderful association to have in its own right, it is perhaps the tip of the iceberg when considering the entire span of Billy's career. During his life he wrote, performed and recorded alongside artists such as Ray Charles, Little Richard, The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, The Jackson Five, Sly and the Family Stone, Barbara Streisand, Sammy Davis Jr., Stevie Winwood and Quincy Jones, to name a few.

To see and hear him play was a wonderful experience. The recent DVD releases of Concert for Bangladesh and Concert for George faithfully preserve two phenomenal live performances.

At Genesis we were honoured to have Billy give his considered contribution to the Concert For George limited edition book, and to our George Martin DVD project. As the keyboardist on The Rolling Stones Tour of The Americas 1975, he of course features in this recent book as well. It was a privilege to meet with him, and at Genesis we are remembering his bright and gentle manner.

Subscribers can read more about Billy's life and make donations in his name at www.billypreston.net.

BEATLES FESTIVAL IN HAMBURG

From 3 until 5 June, the hamburgmuseum is presenting a special exhibition of 'The Hamburg Sound - Beatles, Beat & Grosse Freiheit'. This event, unique in Germany, shows the genesis of Beat music in Hamburg as well as sixties youth culture - featuring original artifacts, stagings, photos, films and, naturally, the sound of that era. The Beatles and their exceptional career is the central topic of this exhibition, but, at the same time, the contemporary background from fashion to consumer behaviour, from lifestyle to the student protests is shown.

A three-day Beat festival from 3 until 5 June kicks off the exhibition featuring, among others, Cynthia Lennon, Klaus Voormann, Astrid Kirchherr and Achim Reichel. It is organised by the hamburgmuseum (there are more details on the hamburgmuseum website). Besides an international vendors' market of memorabilia, rarities, records and books concerning Beat and the Beatles talk shows, autograph sessions and concerts are scheduled to bring back those legendary times in Hamburg.

SOUND AND VISION FOR CANCER RESEARCH

Cancer Research UK is hosting an auction of rock photography, art and memorabilia at Abbey Road Studios on February 27. Many Genesis photographers and authors are involved, including Kate Simon, Mick Rock, Gered Mankowitz, Klaus Voormann, Storm Thorgeson and Sir George Martin. Genesis will also be contributing a book to the auction. Tickets for the night cost £100.

You will be able to bid for the photos and images you would like to keep, as well as see the studio in which The Beatles recorded, and John Lennon's piano. There will also be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bid for the chance for you and a friend to fly to New York to recreate the iconic 1963 Freewheelin' Bob Dylan album cover with its original photographer, Don Hunstein; or for you and four friends to go to Primrose Hill to recreate the Rolling Stones 1967 Between the Buttons cover before having lunch with photographer Gered Mankowitz.

PETO'S BEATLES: BOOK & SHOW LAUNCH

Thursday 26th Jan saw the launch of our latest book, 'Now These Days Are Gone', that showcases a unique collection of unseen Beatles photographs, taken during the making of 'Help!' by renowned photojournalist, Michael Peto. The University of Dundee are custodians to this fascinating collection of some 500 previously unpublished images, and we are honoured to present them for the first time.

The book was launched at Hoopers Gallery where the University of Dundee now begins a 4-week show of the photos that is open to the public to attend. The exhibited prints are for sale and we recommend that any of our customers in the London area pop along if they have the chance. For full details see below *.

At the private viewing we were delighted to see Michael Ross from New Jersey, a Genesis subscriber who happened to be in town (he was the winner of Ringo's Postcard Competition, back in April 2005) and Victoria Lukens from the Independent on Sunday who brought along an advance copy of the 'Now These Days Are Gone' feature story that was going to press.

Thanks to everyone who attended for their support and for the very positive feedback we received on the new book. Approved by Brian Roylance in the final stages of design, we have dedicated the book to his memory and hope you also find it a fitting new addition to the Genesis catalogue. You can read more and order 'Now These Days Are Gone' online here.
