The entire black and white Rolling Stones archive of celebrated Stones photographer Gered Mankowitz was reproduced as 12" x 16" contact sheets.
Renowned for his famous iconic images of the Stones, such as the Between the Buttons cover shot, Gered Mankowitz's archive of 170 contact sheets offers a wealth of previously unpublished photographs of the Stones, including eighteen which Gered has selected for full-page reproduction in this large format book.
Having shot the cover image for December's Children/Out of our Heads on a building site in early 1965, Andrew Loog Oldham asked Gered Mankowitz, then only eighteen years old, to join the Stones as official photographer on their second 1965 tour of the USA.
Returning to London, Gered continued to work with the Stones until 1968, photographing them at home, in Olympic Studios, on Primrose Hill and during their infamous performance on Sunday Night at the London Palladium. Accompanying all these images are Gered's fascinating recollections, in a text of over 10,000 words, of his time spent with the Stones during their early years.
Through this extensive archive of fly-on-the-wall images, each owner of i-con.tact will gain an insider's view of life on the road with the Stones in a way that no book has documented before.
This unique edition forms the cornerstone of any serious Rolling Stones library, thus securing its place as an essential part of every Stones fan's or Genesis subscriber's personal collection.
In allowing Genesis Publications to reproduce his complete archive, Gered Mankowitz requested that the number of copies in the edition be kept to an absolute minimum in order to preserve the exclusivity of his historic images.
