The Making Of Exile On Main St.
Dominique Tarlé's extensive archive of Nellcôte photographs
Genesis first started working directly with The Rolling Stones when creating the milestone publication - Michael Cooper's
Blinds & Shutters. It has since gone on to much-acclaimed solo limited editions by Bill Wyman and Ronnie Wood with the other Stones watching from the wings.
Genesis is now back full circle, full tilt on our most extensive and ambitious Rolling Stones production so far. We are now proud to unveil to the world - EXILE.
'My time spent with Keith and Anita and the rest of The Stones at the Villa Nellcôte was a high point in my life. I should like to express my thanks to the seventeen contributors whose texts form an intriguing narrative to this fine edition of my Exile archive.'
Dominique Tarlé
'It was unique - a whole bunch of us in France with a mobile studio, living, working. We lived Exile on Main St. Dominique became one of those people that could get in and was documenting it. We liked people like that who basically remained invisible.'
Marshall Chess
'Exile provides an unparalleled behind-the-scenes insight into a historic recording. It is quite simply superb.'

Exile features the exceptional photographs of celebrated French rock photographer Dominique Tarlé taken during his stay with Keith Richards and Anita Pallenberg at Villa Nellcôte during the summer of 1971. This extraordinary collection of images ranks amongst the finest and most revealing ever taken of The Rolling Stones or of any rock band. Remarkably, as a body of work it has remained unpublished for thirty years - until now. The Stones are depicted working and relaxing in the South of France.

The original photographic prints from which the reproduction has been carefully made were hand-printed in a Paris studio renowned for its individual printing techniques, thereby ensuring prints of the highest definition with full tonal values.
This large-format photographic tome commences with illustrated introductions by both Dominique Tarlé and Robert Greenfield. Midway through the volume the reader will find an extended version of Robert Greenfield's historic 1971 interview with Keith Richards conducted at Villa Nellcôte. This 35,000-word interview is widely regarded as the best ever given by Keith providing revealing insights into the embryonic days of the Stones and much more. Now for the first time almost 4,000 additional words of this interview, never before published, are printed in Exile.
Further incisive and often humorous texts also appear throughout the book from seventeen contributors who were all part of the varied cast of characters at Nellcôte. They are: Anita Pallenberg, Bill Wyman, Mick Taylor, Dominique Tarlé, Andy Johns, Marshall Chess, Robert Greenfield, Georgia Bergman, June Shelley, Mick McKenna, Astrid Lundström, Sandy Lieberson, Trevor Churchill, Gretchen Parsons Carpenter, Glyn Johns, Dominic Lamblin and Rene d'Amico. Additional contemporary quotes by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Ian Stewart, Jimmy Miller and Nicky Hopkins and two further Greenfield articles complete this remarkable tale.
