The Design

Concert for George has been designed by Nicky Page who has worked exclusively with Genesis for the last fifteen years. It was Nicky who created many of the layouts for the publishing benchmark Blinds and Shutters and also designed most of the pages for The Beatles Anthology. Her innovative, yet instantly classic designs have been the feature of several other groundbreaking titles from Genesis including Exile, Moonage Daydream, Postcards From The Boys and the recent, highly acclaimed, Rebel Music.

The Idea for the actual Concert For George came from a lunchtime chat between Eric Clapton and Brian Roylance. Once Olivia Harrison had given her blessing to the project she became involved with all the aspects of the Concert and the subsequent film and DVD. From the selection of songs for the show, through the stage designs and hand-painted backdrops to the commemorative booklets and even the type of incense to be burned, Olivia was able to provide the details that George would have loved; details which created such a warm, intimate atmosphere on the night.

Now she has helped do the same for this book. As co-editor she has immersed herself in all aspects of design and production to ensure a coherency of style and content from concert, through film to page - even travelling to Milan to oversee the first sheets from the printing press.

Her co-editor, Brian Roylance is the founder of Genesis Publications and was George's book publisher and friend for many years. Between them they worked together on six Genesis titles - as well as George's contribution to The Beatles Anthology - helping to establish the Genesis ethos that books should be a collaborative effort between author and publisher. In creating Concert For George, Brian's collaboration with Olivia has ensured that George's tastes in book design, content and production have been faithfully reflected in a way that we would have approved.

...I remembered again what a marvellous human being we had in George Harrison
