'I grew up in Hamburg, not Liverpool.'
John Lennon

And it was Germany, in 1966 that transformed John again. It saw him cut off the famous Beatlecut he had discovered there, and invested him with a new trademark...

The Beatles and Germany have always had a unique relationship, built up over the hundreds of hours that marked their path to fame. BIG: BEATLES IN GERMANY, the limited-edition book from Genesis Publications, offers you a unique insight into that mutual and invaluable attachment.
imagesBeatles In Germany contains 138 pages of rare and unpublished photographs of the band, accompanied by a full length commentary, with added recollections from Astrid Kirchherr and the photographer Günter Zint. It is a profound pictorial document of that bond between The Beatles and their 'guardian' country: from their first trip to Hamburg in 1960 to a national tour and John's film work in 1966. Among these gems, all superbly reproduced, are the classic Top Ten photos by Peter Brüchmann and the unseen Günter Zint Bravo-Blitztournee images.

Beatles In Germany includes a special chapter by Tony Sheridan, singer on 'My Bonnie', The Beatles' first record. He talks frankly and - for the first time - at length of The Beatles and the early days of their career. It makes extraordinary reading:

'... We didn't record "My Bonnie" as Tony Sheridan plus backing group. It was made as we were: a unit ... Why one of The Beatles didn't sing more that day was primarily because John's voice was ruined. John always had problems with his voice from overdoing it on the beers and cigarettes. So when it came to the recording date he couldn't croak out much more than "Ain't She Sweet"...'
