Featuring the stunning imagery of award winning photographer Steve Hale and the razor sharp narrative of sports writer and lifelong supporter Andy Thompson, This Is Anfield has been endorsed by the Liverpool FC Former Players Association. With their consultation, Genesis has collated the personal and revealing recollections of over fifty players, past and present, from Roger Hunt to Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard, to bring you a detailed and intimate account of the club's development that, Steve Hale comments, 'takes you as close to the soul of Liverpool Football Club as you can come'. The Liverpool Former Players Association will receive a donation for each copy sold.

A limited edition of 2000, each copy is signed by Ronnie Moran and at least four other players, as well as the authors. This Is Anfield's incredible list of signatories includes past legends: Ian St John, Ian Callaghan, Tommy Smith, Alan Kennedy, David Fairclough, Gerry Byrne, Tommy Lawrence, Brian Hall and also players from the current squad such as Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard and Danny Murphy.

Published by Genesis, This Is Anfield further cements their strong links with the city of Liverpool. Genesis has been George Harrison's publisher since 1980 and was also responsible for producing The Beatles' award-winning Anthology book. Other Liverpool related publications have included a volume of Astrid Kircherr's photographs of Liverpool and The Beatles, Liverpool Days. Whilst Sir Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr have participated in numerous Genesis publications, the list of Genesis contributors also includes Eric Clapton, David Bowie, Pete Townshend and Keith Richards. Genesis's last sporting title, Thoroughbreds Of The Crown, documented the history of The Royal Studs and was published with the full co-operation of Buckingham Palace.

'THIS IS ANFIELD' PLAYER QUOTES:

Shanks went down on the pitch, and I had to get this all red kit on, run down the tunnel, up the stairs and out. I'd gone about five yards, and Shanks was shouting, 'That's it! Bloody hell, he looks about seven foot!' So we started to play in red.
Ron Yeats

I was like any other Liverpool fan, in awe of the team and in awe of Bill Shankly. Everyone knew that Shankly was creating a monster; this was no ordinary football team.
Phil Thompson

Shankly had us believing we the fittest team in the league. He would tell the press, 'My boys are training hard', when he'd given us the day off. We'd read the next day how we'd been running around like madmen when we'd been to the baths and had a massage.
Ian St John

Kevin's sheer enthusiasm, bravery, fearless attitude and desire forced him in to the team. First game of the season we beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 at home, and he was never out of the side after that.
Ray Clemence

When Kevin was brought down he'd been a long run - I had 50 yards to walk to the spot. I thought to myself 'C'mon Nealy, finish this off'. I'd noticed that Wolfgang Knieb was a big lad; he'd towered over Ray on the way out. So I tried to keep it low. And it went low. It went in off the post but so what? We'd got the European Cup.
Phil Neal

I was watching my lad playing in goal for Ormskirk schoolboys against Liverpool schoolboys and this little lad knocked in two against him. I asked someone what his name was; 'Robbie Fowler'. From the start he was a fantastic talent.
Roy Evans

Ian Rush was my favourite strike partner. I learnt so much from him.
Robbie Fowler

Roy Evans said to me, 'Karl, I have a new young talent that I want you to see.' And then, of course, I saw Michael playing in training, and I said to myself, 'This boy is not just a young talent, he is going to be a bloody great player!'
Karl-Heinz Riedle

Gérard has a way of bringing out the best in you. I felt I improved as a player when he arrived. Liverpool has always been about traditions, even in training, but I think that Gérard knew it was time for change.
Dominic Matteo

Being injured for any game is horrible. It was really frustrating sitting in the stands at Anfield for the Champions' League game against Roma. The atmosphere was electric and I would have loved to have been on the pitch. The Kop in full voice is such a huge boost.
Michael Owen

'This Is Anfield' means everything. You're so proud when you actually walk out, up the steps, and see it. Shankly said it was for the opposition, that it worries them; but I think it gives our players confidence. It's an absolutely incredible feeling when you're walking down the tunnel.
Ian Rush
