For the first time ever, the entire black and white Rolling Stones archive of celebrated Stones photographer Gered Mankowitz is reproduced as 12" x 16" contact sheets. Renowned for his famous iconic images of the Stones, such as the Between the Buttons cover shot, Gered Mankowitz's archive of 170 contact sheets offers a wealth of previously unpublished photographs of the Stones, including 18 which Gered has selected for full-page reproduction in this large format book.
Having shot the cover for December's Children/Out of our Heads on a building site in early 1965, Andrew Loog Oldham asked Gered, then only 18 years old, to join the Stones as official photographer on their second 1965 tour of the USA.
Returning to London, Gered continued to work with the Stones until 1968, photographing them at home, in Olympic Studios, on Primrose Hill and during their infamous performance on Sunday Night at the London Palladium. Accompanying all these images are Gered's fascinating recollections of his time spent with the Stones during their early years.
