Rolling Stones back in Exile
Exile, the double album written and recorded when the Stones decamped to Nellcôte, Keith Richard's villa in the south of France, is back. Now with an optional second disc of unreleased collectibles, Exile on Main St is reissued by Polydor on May 17.
The bonus tracks on the rarities disc are a mixture of unreleased outtakes and incomplete tracks to which Mick Jagger has added new vocals and lyrics, with the latter-day Stones producer Don Was.
Mick Taylor, in the sold out Genesis edition EXILE, says of the album: 'I think only The Rolling Stones could have got away with making a record like that, and certainly the idea of having a mobile studio and taking wherever you wanted was quite appealing.
'As a record, Exile is quite rough, a bit raw, some of the songs are excellent, some are a little sloppy. But it certainly is a unique album and captured the mood and spirit of that period. It really did.'
