On this day in 1968

On August 4th, 1968, Jackie Stewart produced perhaps his greatest drive at the Nurburgring. In soaking conditions he totally outclassed everyone else to finish first - a remarkable four minutes ahead of his nearest competitor, Graham Hill, in second place. In his his new limited edition, COLLAGE, Jackie recalls:
'There was torrential rain and thick fog. You just couldn't see anything. There was a lot of aquaplaning and teetering on the edge. At times I could have gone off, and I was close to it on several occasions, but, for whatever reason, I managed to keep it together.
'I took the chequered flag and went into the pits. Incredibly, I was able to get out of the car and get the brace off my broken Scaphoid before the next car even arrived [Note: Jackie was driving with a broken wrist]. It was amazing really.'
