‘Whiter Shade Of Pale’ - Most Played Song In 75 Years
BBC Radio 2 and PPL have compiled a list of the top 75 songs most heard in the UK since 1934. The top hit was Procol Harem’s ‘Whiter Shade of Pale’ and lead singer Gary Brooker said it was a ‘great and unsought honour’. In second place was Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ followed by the Everly Brothers’ ‘All I Have To Do Is Dream’ in third. The Beatles managed three places but surprisingly none in the top ten. The program was broadcast on Easter Monday but you can listen again using the BBC’s iPlayer – click here.
All the top three artists can be found in the Genesis catalogue. Gary Brooker contributes to CONCERT FOR GEORGE our limited edition celebration of the life of George Harrison; Mick Rock’s KILLER QUEEN captures Queen in the Seventies and includes the photography that inspired the classic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ video; and Lew Allen’s photographs show the Everly Brothers in the fifties as rock ‘n’ roll was taking over the world in ELVIS & THE BIRTH OF ROCK. All these titles are in stock and available to order now.
