The Beatles story, although synonymous with Liverpool, began in Germany as young men earning just £15 a week in the clubs of Hamburg and ended forty years ago this week on top of the Apple corps building in Savile Row, London, performing for free.

This Friday (30th January) marks the 40th anniversary of one of The Beatle’s most legendary (and last live) performances - The Rooftop Concert. An astounding 42 minute set, the display was loved by many, bringing part of the capital to a standstill, although nearby office workers complained about the noise, which led to the police ending the impromptu gig early. As they finished their third rendition of Get Back, Lennon added:

“I'd like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we've passed the audition.”

To celebrate this milestone Genesis are exclusively releasing a few very special copies of BEATLES IN GERMANY – the photographic history of the band’s formative years. These preview copies were produced in 1997 for promotional use and only a few are available to purchase (£275 plus p&p). Each one is numbered in roman numerals and features a white card sleeve (instead of a Perspex slipcase) and are additionally signed by Astrid Kirchherr - this is the first time they have been made available since the book’s launch and the offer is only available until Monday 2nd February.
