Three Portraits of Syd Barrett
‘He seems tense, suspended. He treads through time and space very gingerly. Thin and pale, with eyes still shocked by it all, he looks like a poet of old. The wasted, ephemeral beauty of a Keats.’ So wrote Mick Rock of Pink Floyd’s founder member, Syd Barrett, in Rolling Stone magazine. The year was 1971 and it would prove to be Syd Barrett’s last ever photo shoot. As part of Genesis’ 35th anniversary celebrations, Mick Rock has hand-selected three portraits from that legendary last session to be reproduced as large-format, hand-signed and numbered, limited edition art prints available now exclusively to Genesis subscribers.
‘Blown on the steel breeze’
In honour of Syd’s creative and innovative genius, and in celebration of Mick Rock’s past Genesis editions, each photograph has been dramatically screen printed in black ink on to aluminium.
Suitable for framing, only 65 of each of the 11x14 inch screenprints will ever be made. The three portraits are produced from the negative for the first time, are not available as prints anywhere else and have been selected by the photographer from his leather-bound volume, PSYCHEDELIC RENEGADES.
For a limited time only the portraits are available individually, priced at £495, or as a complete set for £1,200 (plus p&p).
Special offer to Genesis subscribers
A reader offer is available to Genesis subscribers: If you already own, or purchase a copy of one of Mick Rock’s Genesis editions - including PSYCHEDELIC RENEGADES, MOONAGE DAYDREAM (now fully subscribed) and KILLER QUEEN - each print will be available at a reduced price of £395 individually - or £950 for the complete set (plus p&p).
The Syd Barrett Fund – a charity that helps to raise money for arts projects for mental health patients – is receiving a donation from the sale of every print.
