Nine-year-old Fan Gets Liverpool Greats To Sign This Is Anfield
Persistence has paid off for Mark Wilson, who has secured much-treasured signatures in his copy of This Is Anfield for his 9-year-old son, James.Mark, a machine operator in North Wales, wrote to both Kevin Keegan and Graeme Souness to ask them to sign the book. He was 'pleasantly surprised' when Keegan invited him and James to Maine Road and signed the copy in his office.
Likewise, Graeme Souness obliged at Ewood Park when the two went there for the match against Charlton. "Graeme was a really nice fellow," says Mark. "He was very charming and said what a lovely book it is."
Then I took James to Melwood Park, LFC's training ground to try and get Michael Owen's signature. But when we didn't manage that, I took him to Owen's parents house. Owen senior took the book and got Michael to sign it and James was thrilled as he's a great fan of Michael's.
Lastly, they went to Chester where Liverpool play their reserve games and managed to get Phil Thompson and Sammy Lee to sign as they left the game against Leeds Utd. Reserves. "Phil Thompson said it was a nice book," says Mark.
Order This Is Anfield.
