Genesis Publications/lcc Sports Photography Award

At midday tomorrow (September 17th) at The Arts Centre in Liverpool Community College, Genesis Publications, Steve Hale, Liverpool's top sports photographer over the last 30 years, and former Reds star David Fairclough are announcing a major new award for student photographers on Merseyside.

The Genesis Publications/LCC Award is in association with Borders bookshop in Liverpool, which will mount an exhibition of the winning entries before Christmas. The opening of the exhibition will coincide with the giving out of prizes worth £1000 plus, for the winner, an invaluable day with Steve Hale covering a top sporting event. Steve has won numerous national and international press awards, including last year's Royal Photographic Society International Medal. Last November Genesis published a modern history of Liverpool Football Club, This Is Anfield, featuring the best photos from Steve's archive of 400,000.

David Fairclough, who is one of the judges of the award, says: "Obviously any initiative which is going to encourage and develop the art of photography, I would certainly welcome and wholly support."
